Acupuncture Points Map

For any serious practitioner of acupuncture, a acupuncture points map is essential. You will often see these maps on the office wall of a doctor of holistic medicine. These maps depict the points on the body where qi accumulates. These points regulate the flow of energy throughout the body and are the points that a acupuncturist will focus on.

These acupuncture points affect mood and body function among other things. A traditional point map will usually show the 14 main channels or meridians. The points are located along these meridians which 12 are for each main organ and the other 2 are along the spine and abdomen.

What does an acupuncturist do with these points on an acupuncture points map? The main priority is to get energy flowing through these points and for this the acupuncturist uses small needles at the points where energy is disrupted.

Below is a basic acupuncture points map that shows the acupuncture points that are commonly used to treat lower back pain. Of course, much more detailed maps can be purchased online as a wall chart or as a download. Often, there are separate maps such as this one for specific ailments and conditions.
